Not so far from a farm was a duck pond. It was not so big, but Lettie Hempstock tells everyone, that many years ago duck pond was an ocean, and moreover it is a door in a different reality. What happened one day near its water, may actually never happen...

The seven-year-old boy, whose name we never learn, tells us the story from his perspective. So we are very close to him and learn his emotions first hand.

Biography
The Neil Gaiman was born in 1960 in England. He started his career in London as a journalist and became popular for his comics series The Sandman. His most notable novels are Neverwhere and Stardust. Also, he with Terry Pratchett wrote Good Omens. Today he lives in the United States.
